FAQs
What power supply does the Cros Arc MMA 161d 230V need in a workshop?
The Cros Arc MMA 161d is a dual‑voltage inverter, so it can run on both 110V and 230V single‑phase supplies. On 230V it draws up to around 16A, so a dedicated 16A industrial socket is recommended for full output. On 110V it draws up to 32A, making it suitable for site transformers and construction work. This makes it flexible for both fixed workshop installations and mobile repair work.
What thickness and types of electrodes can it handle?
The machine is rated for 1.6–3.2 mm MMA electrodes, which comfortably covers most bodyshop, light fabrication and general repair work. It will run standard rutile and basic rods for mild steel, and appropriate electrodes for stainless. For continuous use at the top end of the current range, we recommend running on 230V to maintain a stable arc and sensible duty cycle.
Can the Cros Arc MMA 161d be used for TIG welding?
Yes, it has a DC lift‑TIG function. With the optional TIG Kit 8 (torch and gas gear) it can be used for basic DC TIG work on mild and stainless steel. It is a scratch/lift start set, not HF start, so it suits repair and light fabrication rather than high‑end production TIG. It is DC only, so it will not TIG weld aluminium.
Is this machine suitable for site use and mobile repairs?
Yes. It is an inverter set weighing about 8.5 kg, supplied with a carrying case, MMA leads and a 13A plug. The dual‑voltage input, VRD safety device and generator‑friendly design make it well suited to mobile work, onsite body repairs and roadside jobs. For reliable running from generators, use a good‑quality unit with sufficient kVA and clean output, and our engineers can advise on sizing if needed.
