Technical Features
- Latest IGBT inverter power source giving a stable DC arc suitable for consistent MMA welding in professional workshops
- 400 A output with highduty cycle at 40 °C allowing sustained heavy welding without frequent thermal cutout, ideal for fabrication and repair work
- Wide current range from 40–400 A so you can comfortably run everything from light repair electrodes through to heavy section rods
- Capable of welding with 1.6–6.0 mm MMA electrodes, covering typical lowhydrogen, basic, rutile and hardfacing rods used in bodyshops and fabrication
- Arc force control to stabilise the arc and reduce sticking on difficult joints, root runs and outofposition welds
- Digital amperage display for accurate setting and repeatable welding parameters across different operators and jobs
- Simple frontpanel layout with straightforward controls, making it quick for any welder to set up without navigating complex menus
- Threephase 400 V input for stable industrial power supply and better performance on higher current work than small singlephase machines
- Generatorfriendly design, allowing use on correctly sized, stable generators for mobile work or sites without fixed threephase supply
- Fancooled internal components to maintain reliability under heavy use in warm, dusty bodyshop environments
- Portable 19 kg inverter package that can be carried around the workshop or on site, rather than tied to a fixed bay
- Supplied ready to weld with earth return lead and clamp plus 4 m MMA lead, so only electrodes and PPE are needed to start work
- Robust chassis suited to workshop conditions, handling daytoday knocks, movement and storage in busy bodyshops
- Compatible with optional trolley to improve mobility around larger workshops and give better cable and torch management
- Conforms to EN and BS EN IEC 60974 standards, giving confidence in electrical safety and welding performance for professional use

FAQs
What input power and supply protection does the Cros Arc MMA 400 DC 400V require?
The Cros Arc MMA 400 DC is a three-phase machine designed for a 400V ±15% 50/60Hz supply. Input current at full load is around 26A, so in most workshops it will need a suitably rated three-phase circuit with appropriate MCB and cabling sized by a qualified electrician. It is generator-friendly, but the generator must be three-phase, correctly earthed and sized with enough headroom to comfortably cover the machine’s peak draw.
What rod sizes and applications is this welder suitable for?
It will comfortably run MMA electrodes from 1.6mm up to 6mm, so it covers everything from lighter bodyshop fabrication and bracket work through to heavier chassis, structural repairs and general workshop fabrication. The stable DC arc and arc force control help with low-hydrogen rods, cellulosic where permitted, and basic/rutile electrodes on heavier plate. It is aimed at continuous professional use rather than occasional DIY work.
Is the Cros Arc MMA 400 DC suitable for continuous heavy-duty workshop use?
Yes. The unit is an industrial IGBT inverter with a 400A output and a 40% duty cycle at 40°C, which is a realistic bodyshop/workshop ambient temperature. In practice this gives plenty of arc-on time for heavy welds before thermal cut-out, and at lower currents the usable duty cycle increases further. The robust chassis and fan cooling are designed for daily use in commercial environments.
What is included in the package and what accessories do BWS recommend?
Standard supply includes the Cros Arc MMA 400 DC power source, earth return lead with clamp and a 4m MMA electrode lead. For fixed workshop use we usually recommend adding the dedicated inverter trolley (CAP0216) for easier movement around bays, plus suitably rated extension leads and PPE. BWS can also advise on electrode choice for your work mix and ongoing service, calibration and repair support to keep the machine reliable in daily use.
