Mark Allen says
Air compressors are the core of pneumatic systems in a bodyshop or workshop. I use them to run impact tools, spray guns, sanders and tyre service equipment, often shared between spray booths and hand stations. In practice you must match the compressor type to duty and air quality — there are belt-driven, vertical and rotary screw units, plus petrol models for remote work. Key technical considerations are pipework sizing and condensate management: undersized lines and poor drainage cause pressure drop, corrosion and premature tool wear. Also check control method and duty cycle; variable-speed units reduce cycling on mixed loads while fixed-speed machines need correctly adjusted unloaders. A common issue I encounter is oil or water carryover when filtration or dryers are omitted or underspecified. With correct installation, drainage and routine servicing of filters, belts and drains a compressor will give reliable service and good efficiency.
