Hypertherm plasma cutters are practical air plasma systems for cutting and gouging conductive metals in a workshop environment. In a bodyshop or fabrication bay they’re typically used for trimming chassis sections, cutting out rusted panels, making brackets, and modifying exhausts or structural parts, especially where steel is dirty, painted or corroded.
Real-world use comes down to matching the system to typical material thickness and having stable power and clean compressed air. Most setups rely on shop air and standard AC supply, so I pay close attention to air quality and duty cycle when specifying equipment for regular cutting of mild steel, stainless or aluminium.
