This is a pre-filter for the Parweld XR940A powered air respirator, used to trap the larger dust and fume particles before they reach the main filter. In a busy bodyshop or fabrication bay, especially when grinding, sanding or welding galvanised and coated panels, the pre-filter does most of the dirty work and dramatically affects how long your main filter lasts.

From a practical point of view, the key is matching replacement frequency to your environment. Heavy grinding on filler and paint will load these quickly, so I advise checking them visually at least daily. If the pre-filter looks clogged or airflow feels reduced at the hood, change it rather than trying to stretch it out.

A common issue I see is users blaming the PAPR unit for low airflow when the pre-filter is simply blocked solid. Another is running without a pre-filter to “get more flow”, which just ruins the main filter early.

Used correctly, regular pre-filter changes keep airflow stable, help protect your lungs, and reduce overall consumable cost on the XR940A system.
