The THINKCAR PLD212 Turbo is a 12V smoke and pressure tester for locating leaks in vehicle intake, turbocharger, exhaust, crankcase and other pipe systems. In a workshop, I would use it after a fault code, poor running complaint or suspected boost loss, sealing the system with the correct adaptor and introducing smoke while checking joints, hoses, intercoolers and connectors.
The Turbo model is intended for higher-pressure testing, with output around 13–16 psi and adjustable flow. That makes correct isolation important: do not pressurise components beyond the vehicle manufacturer’s limits, and confirm that the adaptor or inflatable seal is properly seated before testing. It has an integral air pump, so it can be powered directly from a 12V battery rather than relying on workshop air.
A common issue is chasing a very small leak with excessive smoke flow or an imperfect blanking plug. Reducing the flow and checking the test setup first usually gives a clearer result. Used with suitable adaptors and sensible pressure control, it is a practical diagnostic tool that can save considerable time on boost and intake leak faults.
