Technical Features

  • Microprocessorcontrolled dent repair system designed specifically for straightening and repairing steel body panels in professional bodyshops
  • Digital LCD multifunction control panel with clear iconbased programs for quick selection of the correct dentpulling mode and tool
  • Automatic parameter setting according to the selected tool (studs, washers, pulling stars, nails etc.) to give consistent, repeatable weld quality
  • Automatic sheet thickness adjustment so the machine optimises weld time and current to suit the panel, reducing burnthrough risk on thin steel
  • Highoutput resistance spot welding performance suited to pulling out medium to heavy dents on structural and cosmetic steel panels
  • Supplied automatic gun that triggers the weld at the correct pressure for repeatable results and reduced operator error
  • Work/earth cable with pointing mass to ensure reliable contact on the vehicle body and stable welding performance
  • Supplied extractor, spindle and pulling stars for mechanical pulling of dents once the washers or studs are welded on
  • Nail extractor function for welding on and pulling with nails where access or panel shape makes other consumables difficult to use
  • Washer welding function (including 3‑pin washers supplied) for strong pull points on larger or more complex dents
  • Star/washer pulling via the supplied mandrel for even load distribution over the repair area, reducing the risk of over‑stretching the panel
  • Fine control over weld time and power via the digital interface, allowing the operator to tune performance for different steels and repair types
  • Short, localised heating of the panel compared with traditional MIG “blob” pulling, helping to limit heataffected zones and reduce distortion
  • Singleside access welding, allowing dent pulling without needing access to the rear of the panel
  • Compact, relatively lightweight power unit that can be trolleymounted for easy movement between bays
  • Designed for continuous professional use in bodyshops, with duty cycle and protection features suited to regular dentpulling work
  • Electronic protection against overtemperature and incorrect use to safeguard internal components and maintain reliability
  • Compatible with a wide range of Telwin dent pulling consumables and accessories, allowing the system to be tailored to different repair methods
  • Simple, menudriven setup that makes it quick for technicians to learn and reduces setup time between different repair jobs
  • Stable performance on automotive steel panels, making it suitable for both cosmetic refinishing work and heavier body straightening jobs

FAQs

Is the Telwin 5500 Digital Steel Dent Repair Welder suitable for all car body steels?
It is designed specifically for straightening and dent repairing on standard automotive steel panels. It is ideal for outer body panels, box sections and structural areas where you need strong pull points. It is not suitable for aluminium or high-resistance boron steels that require specialist equipment and procedures. For mixed-material vehicles, you would normally use this only on conventional mild and low-alloy steels and follow OEM repair methods.
What power supply does the Telwin Digital Puller 5500 need in the workshop?
The Digital Puller 5500 is a two‑phase 400 V unit, rated at 10.5 kW absorbed power with a recommended 10 A supply fuse. In practice, you should allow for a suitably protected, dedicated 400 V supply in the bodyshop to avoid nuisance tripping when working at higher outputs. If you are unsure about your incoming supply, our engineers can advise on suitability and safe installation before purchase.
What is included with the machine and what extra accessories might I need?
As standard, it comes complete with automatic gun, work (earth) cable with pointing mass, nails extractor, washer holder (3‑pin), mandrel for pulling stars, spindle and pulling stars. This covers most everyday dent‑pulling operations straight out of the box. For higher throughput bodyshops you may want extra dent pulling consumables such as studs, washers, stars and tips, plus a trolley for easier movement around the workshop. BWS can supply genuine Telwin consumables and suitable trolleys and benches.
How does the digital control help in daily bodyshop use?
The microprocessor‑controlled LCD panel allows you to select the tool you are using, and the unit automatically sets welding parameters and adjusts for sheet thickness. This reduces the risk of burning through thin panels, keeps pull points consistent and speeds up work for different operators. In a busy shop it means less time spent tweaking settings and more repeatable results, especially when multiple techs share the same puller.

Expert Advice

Dan Jennings

Dan Jennings says

This is a dedicated steel dent pulling system for bodyshops, designed for controlled heat input on outer panels rather than structural welding. In day-to-day use it sits by the bench or rack, with the earth clamped close to the damage while you work with pull washers, stars, studs or a pulling bar to bring stretched metal back into line.

The key with this type of welder is clean steel and consistent contact. Paint, e-coat and zinc must be removed properly or the unit will either misfire or overheat the contact tip trying to compensate. Correct program choice for panel thickness and tool type matters as well; too much energy and you harden or thin the panel, too little and the washers shear off under load.

A common issue we see is poor earth connection on corroded pinch welds, leading to erratic performance. When it is set up correctly and kept clean, this kind of digital dent repair welder gives reliable, repeatable pulls and helps keep filler use and panel distortion under control.
