Engineer Advice
Paul Jones says
In practice, you brush it on to thoroughly cleaned weld areas, leave it for the specified dwell time, then rinse off with plenty of water, ideally with low-pressure washing. Ventilation, PPE and proper waste handling are non‑negotiable; this is not something to use casually on the bench next to other jobs.
Key points are material compatibility (austenitic stainless only, not mild steel, aluminium or zinc‑coated parts) and strict adherence to the safety and dwell‑time instructions. A common issue I see is over‑application or leaving it on too long, which can etch beyond the weld and leave uneven finishes.
Used correctly, it gives a consistent, clean weld area and helps maintain stainless performance in service.
