Engineer Advice

This is an acid neutralising paste used to treat welds and adjacent areas after pickling or acidic cleaning processes. In a bodyshop or fabrication workshop, you’ll typically brush it onto stainless or mild steel where an acid gel or liquid has been used to clean weld discolouration or prep a surface. The paste stops the acid continuing to react, and helps prevent staining or corrosion later on.

In practice, good coverage and sufficient dwell time matter more than people think. Work it into the affected area, especially around weld toes, seams and overlaps, then rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry the panel properly. Leftover residue or poor rinsing is a common cause of ghost marks and early rust, particularly on edges and flanges.

From an engineering point of view, consistent use of a neutraliser is cheap insurance. Used correctly, it helps maintain coating adhesion, improves long-term corrosion resistance and reduces come-backs from staining or blistering around previously treated welds.
