The Sumner Roller Head with Rubber Wheels is a pipe support head designed to sit on top of compatible Sumner pipe stands, providing smooth rotation while protecting coated or polished tube and pipe. The rubber-tyred rollers reduce marking on sensitive surfaces and give controlled movement, ideal for fabrication bays, exhaust work, and general pipe fitting in professional workshops.

  • Rubber wheel rollers to minimise marking on painted or coated pipe
  • Fits standard Sumner-style pipe stands and vee-head bases
  • Allows smooth rolling and rotation for cutting, prepping and welding
  • Robust construction suitable for daily use in fabrication and bodyshop environments

Engineer Advice

Paul Jones

Paul Jones says

This roller head is essentially a support and feed aid for handling tube, box and other stock alongside welders, saws or pipe fabrication kit. In a bodyshop or fabrication bay you’ll use it to support long sections while cutting, dressing or tacking, so the workpiece stays at a consistent height and doesn’t fight you.

The rubber wheels are useful when you’re dealing with painted, plated or softer materials where steel rollers would mark the surface. They also give a bit of grip, which helps control rotation on lighter sections, but you still need to set height and angle correctly so the material feeds straight and doesn’t “walk” sideways.

A common issue I see is units left slightly skewed to the machine bed, which causes the piece to bind or kick as it’s fed. Spend a minute aligning the roller to the cut or weld line and lock it off properly.

Used correctly, a decent roller head like this improves handling, reduces damage to finished surfaces and makes one-man operation much more realistic and safe.
