FAQs

Is the Scangrip Multimatch R suitable for professional bodyshops and detailing work?
Yes, it is designed specifically for inspection and detailing, providing up to 1200 lumen with very high colour rendering (CRI 96+), so you can accurately see defects, holograms and colour match across panels. The ALL DAYLIGHT / CCT SCAN functions let you adjust or scan through five colour temperatures (roughly 2500–6500K), which is useful when checking metallics, pearls and repainted areas under different light conditions.
How long does the Multimatch R run on battery and how is it charged?
The light is fully rechargeable and typically gives between about 50 minutes and 10 hours run time depending on the output setting selected. At full power you are around an hour, at lower levels you can comfortably work through multiple jobs. Charging time is roughly 3.5 hours via the supplied charger, and the built‑in Li‑ion battery is sized for regular daily workshop use.
How can the Multimatch R be mounted or positioned in the workshop?
The unit has a robust handle with strong integrated magnets, so you can mount it on lift posts, body panels (where safe), racks or other steel surfaces without extra brackets. It is also designed to fit directly onto the Scangrip tripod and wheel stand, which makes it practical for lighting full sides of vehicles or working around a car during polishing and inspection. This gives good flexibility in tight bays and around ramps.
Is the Multimatch R durable enough for everyday workshop use?
Yes, it is built for professional environments. The housing is impact‑resistant and rated dust‑ and waterproof to IP67, so it copes well with the typical bodyshop environment: dust, occasional knocks and the odd splash. The unit is compact (roughly 155 × 165 × 64 mm, around 820 g) and the lens and casing are designed to be handled regularly without feeling fragile, making it suitable for daily use by multiple technicians.

What Our Engineers Say!

Jason

Jason says

I see the Scangrip Multimatch R as a proper colour inspection light rather than a general torch. In bodyshop and detailing work, I would use it for checking paint, filler, sanding marks and finish quality where colour accuracy matters and false reading can cost time.

The key point is the light quality and colour temperature control. A high CRI source helps reveal surface defects more honestly, and the ability to shift the daylight tone is useful when matching how a panel will look under different workshop conditions. It is also a practical lamp for portable use, so it suits mobile inspection, polishing bays and final handover checks.

In my experience, the common mistake is relying on one fixed light tone for every job. That can hide defects or make a finish look better than it really is. If the lamp is positioned badly, reflections can also mislead the eye.

Used properly, this is a reliable inspection tool that helps maintain consistency, reduce rework and make finish quality easier to judge accurately.
