FAQs

Is the GYSMATIC XXL air fed helmet suitable for full-time professional bodyshop use?
Yes. It is designed as a professional air fed system with an XXL 100 x 83 mm viewing area, shade 5–13, TRUE COLOR lens, and a waist-mounted blower pack. It is suitable for regular MIG/MAG, TIG (down to 2 A), MMA and plasma work in busy bodyshops and fabrication workshops where both eye and respiratory protection are required.
What filtration level does the respirator provide and can it be upgraded?
The system is supplied with a TH2 P R SL filter, which is appropriate for most welding fume situations when the unit is used correctly and face seal is maintained. For higher protection requirements, the system can be upgraded to TH3 using the appropriate filter/kit. If you are unsure what level you need, BWS engineers can advise based on your process and fume extraction setup.
How long will the battery and air supply last in a typical shift?
The blower pack gives up to 8 hours run time, depending on the chosen air flow rate (170, 200 or 230 l/min) and filter condition. On a normal bodyshop day with breaks and mixed work, most users will get a full shift on one charge at the mid setting. The digital display shows remaining battery capacity and filter saturation so you can plan charging and filter changes rather than being caught out mid-job.
What maintenance and consumables should we plan for in the workshop?
Routine items are pre-filters, main filters (TH2 or TH3 if upgraded), spark arrestor, face seal, and clear cover lenses. The blower unit also needs periodic cleaning and inspection of hoses and seals. The helmet has an alarm for obstructed filters and low battery, but it’s good practice to visually check and change filters on a schedule based on hours used and the amount of grinding dust and fume in the area. BWS can supply genuine GYS filters, lenses and spares and can service the blower pack and electronics if they develop faults.
