Engineer Advice
Paul Jones says
With FIAC horizontal receivers, the main technical points I look at are usable volume versus compressor output, and working pressure/CE approval. Correct sizing is important – too small a vessel and you get pressure drop and the compressor chasing demand, too large and you’re wasting space without real benefit. Pipework layout, drain points and accessibility for inspection also matter, especially in busy bodyshops with damp air and long runs.
A common issue I see is neglected condensate draining, leading to internal corrosion and water carry-over to tools and spray equipment. Set up a routine for manual or automatic drains from day one.
Used correctly, a well-sized horizontal receiver gives reliable pressure stability, protects the compressor mechanically and makes the whole air system more efficient and easier to live with.
