Paul Jones says
This is a 400 V resistance spot welder intended for OEM-Approved structural work on BMW bodies. In a proper bodyshop set-up it will usually sit in a fixed bay, with good access around the vehicle and a dedicated power and cooling supply. Day to day, it is used for replacing OEM spot welds on panels, sills and structural sections where MIG brazing or bonding is not specified.
The critical points are a stable three-phase supply and correct tip dressing and pressure. Poor copper condition or contaminated electrodes will give erratic nugget size and fail destruct tests, even if the machine is technically capable. You also need to keep the arms, caps and cables matched to the OEM procedures, otherwise access and weld quality suffer.
A common issue we see is underestimating how clean the metal needs to be between flanges, especially with zinc and factory sealers left in place. When installed correctly, checked with regular weld tests and maintained, this kind of welder gives consistent, repeatable joints and keeps BMW approval inspections straightforward.
