Hypertherm Powermax30 Air Plasma Torch for Professional Bodyshops

This is a compact handheld plasma cutting torch used with the Hypertherm Powermax30 Air system for cutting steel and other conductive metals in the workshop. In a bodyshop or fabrication bay it tends to be used for trimming panels, brackets, chassis sections and general light plate work where a grinder is awkward or too slow.

In day-to-day use, the main technical considerations are air quality and correct consumable setup. Although the machine has an internal compressor, keeping the torch supplied with clean, dry air and checking nozzle and electrode wear makes a big difference to cut quality and starting reliability. Torch lead routing is also important so the cable isn’t kinked or dragged across sharp edges.

A common issue I see is operators running worn consumables for too long, which gives dirty bevelled cuts and makes the torch harder to start, especially on painted or rusty stock.
