Engineer Advice

Paul Jones

Paul Jones says

Gyspot PTI spot welders are used every day in bodyshops for panel replacement, sectioning and repair work where controlled resistance welding is needed. I see them most often on modern vehicle panels, where consistent weld quality matters and access can be tight. The main points I check are electrode condition, arm alignment and the panel surface prep, because poor contact or contamination will affect the weld straight away. On mixed-material repairs, it is also important to confirm the machine settings suit the material thickness and the joint being made, rather than just relying on a standard setting. A common issue is trying to weld through paint, seam sealer or corrosion and expecting the machine to compensate, which it will not. Used correctly, with the right preparation and setup, this type of welder gives dependable results and keeps repair work efficient and repeatable.
