Engineer Advice
Dan Jennings says
The cow split leather with Kevlar stitching is suited to steel welding and cutting, giving decent resistance to sparks and hot slag while staying flexible enough for setting up panels, jigs and fixtures. Button and Velcro front fastening is straightforward, but you do need to keep it fully closed and collar up when working in tight spaces to avoid burns on the neck and chest.
A common issue I see is people buying the jacket then only wearing it half fastened or over bare arms, which defeats the point and shortens its life. Used correctly, it’s a reliable, low-fuss bit of PPE that improves day-to-day welding comfort and keeps fire risk down around the bench.
