Engineer Advice

Dan Jennings

Dan Jennings says

This is a compact MIG torch setup intended for use with the Jasic EVO MIG 160 / 160 PFC inverters, typically on automotive and light fabrication work. In a bodyshop it will see mainly mild steel panel and bracket work, up to around 4–5 mm, with a mix of short runs and continuous seams on jigs and benches.

On these EVO machines the torch is Euro-connect, so swapping is straightforward, but you do need to match liner, tip size and wire type properly, especially if you alternate between 0.8 and 1.0 mm wire or move to stainless and aluminium. Keeping the 3 m length in good condition is important; kinks near the feeder quickly show up as unstable arc or burn-back, which many assume is a machine fault.

In my experience most issues are down to poor torch maintenance rather than the welder itself. Used correctly, with clean consumables and sensible lead routing, this torch gives reliable feeding and consistent results on day‑to‑day bodyshop repairs.
