Technical Features

  • Technical Features
  • True Color XL AutoDarkening Filter: The oversized 100 x 73 mm lens uses foursensor arc detection and True Color optical technology to present a natural, undistorted view of the workpiece. Unlike standard greentinted filters, True Color rendering allows welders to identify weld pool behaviour, spatter, and joint preparation with greater clarity, directly improving weld quality and reducing rework.
  • Integrated Airfed Respiratory Protection: A continuous supply of PAPRfiltered air is delivered inside the helmet shell, protecting the welder from welding fumes, metal oxides, and fine particulates. This makes the helmet suitable for use in confined spaces, poorly ventilated workshops, and applications involving stainless steel, galvanised materials, or aluminium where fume hazards are elevated.
  • Ultrafast Switching Speed of 1/25,000 s: The autodarkening filter reacts in just 1/25,000 of a second from light to dark state, ensuring the welder's eyes are protected the instant an arc is struck. This nearinstantaneous response eliminates flash exposure risk across all compatible processes including MIG, TIG, MMA, and plasma cutting.
  • Variable Shade DIN 9–13 with External Controls: The shade level, sensitivity, and delay time are all adjustable via external controls, allowing the welder to finetune settings without removing the helmet. This is particularly valuable when switching between processes or materials midsession, reducing downtime and maintaining workflow efficiency.
  • Solarpowered with Battery Backup: The autodarkening filter is powered by an integrated solar cell that harvests energy from ambient and arc light, supplemented by a replaceable battery to guarantee reliable operation even in lowlight environments. This dualpower approach extends the working life of the filter and reduces maintenance interruptions.
  • Ergonomic Multipoint Adjustable Headgear: The helmet features a fully adjustable ratchet headgear system designed to distribute weight evenly across the head, minimising fatigue during prolonged welding sessions. The lightweight construction of the outer shell, combined with balanced weight distribution, makes the GYSmatic 913 G suitable for fullday professional use without discomfort.

FAQs

Is the GYSmatic 9-13 G Air-fed Helmet suitable for full-shift use in a busy bodyshop?
Yes. It is a powered air-purifying welding helmet designed specifically for sustained industrial welding. The air-fed unit provides a continuous supply of filtered air to reduce fume and grinding dust exposure, which is what you want for full-shift MIG/MAG, TIG and MMA work in a professional bodyshop or fabrication shop. The lightweight shell and headgear help reduce neck strain for welders wearing it all day.
What welding processes and applications is this helmet appropriate for?
The GYSmatic 9-13 G auto-darkening filter with shade range 9–13 covers the majority of MIG/MAG, TIG, MMA and flux-cored work typically seen in repair centres and workshops. The XL viewing area and true color lens technology are particularly useful for bodyshop welds on thin panels, position work on chassis and general fabrication. As with any ADF, for very low-amp TIG you should check the minimum detection threshold against your process if you run extremely low currents.
What respiratory system is it compatible with and what consumables will we need?
This helmet is designed to work with GYS air-fed powered air-purifying systems, using their blower unit, hose and belt assembly. You will need the corresponding GYS PAPR filters, pre-filters and spark arrestors specified for that blower pack, plus replacement face seals and sweatbands as they wear. For workshops running multiple users, we recommend keeping spare batteries and filter sets on site so the unit can stay in rotation without downtime. BWS can supply genuine GYS filters, face seals and other service parts.
How does the true color XL viewing area benefit workshop use compared with a standard ADF?
The true color technology gives a more natural, less green-tinted view of the weld pool and surrounding material, making it easier to see joint prep, arc length and heat input, which helps reduce rework on thin automotive panels. The XL viewing area gives a wider field of view, which is useful when working in awkward positions inside wheel arches, under sills or on larger fabrications. In practice, welders tend to position themselves faster and spend less time lifting the helmet to check alignment.

Expert Advice

Paul Jones

Paul Jones says

This is an air-fed welding helmet with an auto-darkening 9–13 shade and true-colour lens, designed for regular use in a bodyshop or fabrication bay. In practice it suits MIG, MAG, TIG and MMA work where you’re running fume-producing jobs for long periods, especially on galvanised, high-strength steels and coated panels.

In the workshop, the key is to treat it as respiratory PPE first and a welding helmet second. Make sure the air hose routing doesn’t foul when you’re under a sill or inside a booth, and check airflow and battery status at the start of each shift. Correct shade selection matters: run it too light and you’ll fatigue your eyes, too dark and you’ll struggle with joint alignment and heat control.

A common issue I see is dirty or scratched inner and outer lenses, which ruins clarity and leads to poor weld placement. Keep spare covers to hand and change them regularly. Set up and maintained properly, this type of helmet gives reliable protection and makes long welding sessions far less tiring.
