Technical Features

  • Latest IGBT multiprocess inverter power source for stable MIG/MAG and MMA welding on a 230V singlephase supply
  • Multiprocess capability with MIG/MAG, MMA and DC lift TIG modes, giving one machine for most bodyshop and fabrication tasks
  • Dynamic 4roll wire feed system providing consistent, slipfree feeding on solid and fluxcored wires, useful for longer torch lengths and positional work
  • Suitable for 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0 mm wire diameters, covering thin automotive panels through to heavier fabrication
  • Accepts both 5 kg and 15 kg wire reels, so you can run small spools for specialist wires or larger reels for production work
  • Digital volt and amp displays for accurate setting, repeatable procedures and easier fault finding on jobs and procedures
  • Seamless electronic adjustment of voltage, wire speed and other parameters for fine control over arc characteristics and bead appearance
  • Variable inductance control allowing the arc to be softened or sharpened to suit thin car body panels or heavier sections
  • Burnback adjustment to trim the wire burnoff at arc stop, minimising wire stickout issues and improving restart quality
  • Wire inching function to feed wire through the liner without gas or arc, speeding up torch setup and wire changes
  • 2T/4T trigger modes so you can weld short runs in 2T or use 4T latch for longer beads and reduced operator fatigue
  • Gas purge function to clear and check the gas line without wasting wire, useful when changing gas bottles or checking for leaks
  • MMA (stick) welding functionality with up to 250A output, allowing use of a wide range of electrodes for repair and site work
  • Voltage Reduction Device (VRD) for improved safety in MMA mode, reducing opencircuit voltage when not welding in accordance with site safety requirements
  • Trolleymounted chassis for easier movement around the workshop with space to carry the gas cylinder and accessories
  • Generatorfriendly design, allowing use on suitably sized and stable generators for mobile repair work
  • Easy setup and operation with clearly laidout front panel, making it practical for busy bodyshops with multiple operators
  • Duty cycle of 250A at 60% (MIG/MMA) at 40°C, suitable for sustained welding on heavier jobs without constant thermal cutouts
  • IP21/F protection and insulation class suitable for typical indoor workshop environments
  • Supplied with MIG torch, earth return lead and clamp, MMA lead, gas hose and 16A plug so it is ready to go with minimal additional kit required
  • Suitable for agricultural, light to medium fabrication and automotive repair applications, covering most general workshop welding needs

FAQs

Is the CROS ARC 291C suitable for professional workshop use on 240V supply?
Yes. The CROS ARC 291C is a 230V single-phase inverter set, designed to run from a standard 16A workshop supply. It is intended for professional use in agricultural repair, light to medium fabrication and automotive/bodyshop work where three-phase is not available. It delivers up to 250A MIG or MMA at a 60% duty cycle, so it will comfortably handle continuous production-type work within that current range.
What welding processes and materials can it handle?
The machine is a multi-process inverter offering MIG/MAG, MMA (stick) and DC lift TIG. In MIG it will run 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0 mm solid wires on 5 kg or 15 kg reels, so mild steel fabrication, body panels and chassis work are all covered. With appropriate wire and gas it will also handle stainless steel, and DC lift TIG mode allows basic TIG work on steel and stainless. MMA mode will run standard electrodes for repair work where gas or a torch is not practical.
What is included in the standard package and what torch connection does it use?
The package includes the 291C inverter power source on a trolley, an M2 4 m MIG torch, earth return lead and clamp, 3 m MMA lead, gas hose and a 16A plug pre-fitted. The torch connection is a Euro-type connector, so it is straightforward to source compatible torches, necks and consumables. BWS can supply genuine torches, tips, shrouds, liners and drive rollers, and support you with spares over the life of the machine.
What are the key setup and power requirements for reliable operation?
The 291C is single-phase 230V ±15% and draws around 16A, so it should be run from a properly wired 16A industrial socket on an adequate breaker and cable size, not from domestic extension leads. For MIG work, match the wire size to the job: 0.6–0.8 mm for thin automotive panels, 0.8–1.0 mm for heavier brackets and fabrication. Set the inductance to soften the arc on thin material and higher for heavier work. It is generator friendly, but for stable performance use a quality generator with sufficient kVA and good voltage regulation; BWS engineers can advise on sizing and installation if required.
