Dan Jennings says
This type of petrol welder generator is used where mains power is unavailable, particularly for outdoor repairs, site work and remote fabrication. I would typically expect it to be used for MMA welding on structural steel, agricultural machinery and general repair work, with the engine providing the welding supply independently of the workshop electrical system.
The adjustable 40–200A DC range gives useful control across different electrode sizes and material thicknesses. Correct electrode selection, sound earth connection and suitable leads are important, as poor connections can make a stable arc difficult to maintain. The 200A rating should not be treated as continuous output; duty cycle and engine condition need to be considered during longer welds.
A common issue with engine-driven welders is using them without allowing adequate ventilation or routine maintenance. Fuel quality, oil level, air filtration and cooling all affect reliability, especially in dusty workshop or site conditions. Properly set up and maintained, this is a practical welding power source for repairs where portability matters more than fixed workshop convenience.
