What Our Engineers Say!

Paul Jones

Paul Jones says

This is a high-output UV curing lamp designed for fast curing of UV primers, fillers and coatings over larger panels, typically up to about a car door in size. In a bodyshop it sits well in the prep and paint area, taking over from IR on UV-ready products where you want short cycle times and minimal panel heating.

In practice, you position it on a Scangrip wheel stand or tripod, set the distance for the required curing area, then use the built‑in timer and remote control to keep operators clear of the beam. Because it runs at a narrow UV band around the 395–400 nm region, correct product compatibility and observing the manufacturer’s cure schedule is critical.

One common issue I see is techs working too close, over-curing small sections while missing edges, or not allowing for shadows from mirrors and trim. Take time to align the elliptical beam to the repair area.

Used correctly, it gives very reliable, repeatable curing and can significantly improve throughput without overheating plastic or thin panels.
