Technical Features

  • Ultrathin ø9 mm light strip for getting light into tight, inaccessible areas such as behind panels, under dashboards and inside cavities.
  • 3‑in‑1 functionality so the same lamp works as an inspection light, area work light and a focused torch/flashlight.
  • USB‑C rechargeable Li‑ion battery for straightforward charging from modern workshop chargers and power banks.
  • Adjustable main light output from 50 up to 500 lumen, allowing you to balance brightness against runtime for different jobs.
  • Top spotlight delivering a focused beam (around 100–150 lumen) for pinpoint inspection and leak or crack tracing.
  • OPTILight mode providing a controlled illuminance level in typical work situations to optimise both light quality and battery life.
  • High efficiency multi‑LED array with 20 LEDs for even, shadow‑reduced illumination across the work area.
  • Three selectable brightness levels on dedicated buttons so you can change output quickly with gloved hands.
  • Constant lumen output electronics that maintain stable light intensity as the battery discharges, useful for consistent colour matching and inspection.
  • 100% foldable body that can be set at various angles or folded completely to use as a traditional hand torch.
  • Built‑in magnet in the body for hands‑free mounting on steel panels, ramps and benches during repair work.
  • Integrated hook for hanging the lamp from bonnets, boot lids or racking when working in confined spaces.
  • Compact, pocket‑sized form factor when folded, making it easy to carry on the person or store in a toolbox.
  • Durable housing rated to IK07 impact protection with resistance to drops up to 2 m, suited to daily professional workshop use.
  • Impact‑resistant design with extended 5‑year warranty when registered, supporting long‑term use in a busy bodyshop.
  • At least 1000 verified charge cycles on the battery, giving reliable long‑term performance for regular daily charging.
  • Double temperature monitoring to protect both lamp and battery from overheating during long usage or charging.
  • Battery level indicator so technicians can see remaining runtime at a glance and plan charging around jobs.
  • IP30 protection class suitable for dry workshop environments where occasional dust exposure occurs.
  • Wide 110° beam angle on the main light to flood a working area such as an engine bay, wheel arch or interior.
  • Supplied with a 1 m USB‑A to USB‑C cable, making it easy to connect to typical workshop USB outlets and charger heads.
  • Operating temperature range from approximately 10 °C to +40 °C, suitable for unheated workshops and mobile work.
  • Lightweight construction (around 200 g) reducing fatigue when used for extended overhead or awkward positions.
  • Design with available spare parts so the lamp can be kept in service rather than scrapped if components fail.

FAQs

Is the SCANGRIP Slim work light suitable for professional bodyshops and workshops?
Yes, it’s designed for daily professional use. The ultra-thin ø9 mm light strip gets into tight cavities such as engine bays, inner sills and behind bumpers, while the 3‑in‑1 design covers inspection, general work lighting and torch use. The foldable body, built‑in magnet and hook make it practical on stands, lifts and benches, and it is impact tested to 2 m with IK07 protection for typical workshop abuse.
How long does the battery last and how is the lamp recharged?
The lamp uses a 3.7 V / 2600 mAh Li‑ion battery with verified minimum 1000 charge cycles, giving up to 27 hours run time on the lowest 50 lumen setting, around 2.5 hours at full 500 lumen output, and about 4 hours in OPTILight mode. Charging is via the supplied 1 m USB‑A to USB‑C lead at 5 V / 1 A and takes roughly 3.5 hours, so it’s easy to keep topped up from common workshop USB supplies or approved adapters.
Does the SCANGRIP Slim give enough light for vehicle inspection and repair work?
For typical automotive jobs it’s more than adequate. The main strip provides adjustable output from 50 to 500 lumen with a 110° beam angle, and the OPTILight mode delivers 500 lux at 0.5 m for controlled, consistent illumination over a panel or component. The top spotlight adds a 100 lumen focused beam (around 150 lumen on some listings), useful as a torch for targeting specific areas such as weld seams, suspension brackets or fasteners.
What should workshops know about durability and operating conditions?
The lamp is built for workshop environments with IP30 protection, IK07 impact rating and 2 m drop resistance, plus double temperature monitoring to protect the lamp and battery. It operates between -10 °C and +40 °C, so it covers unheated units in winter and warm bays in summer. Spare parts are available and the unit carries a 5‑year warranty when registered, making it a sensible choice for workshops that need reliable lighting with long‑term support from an engineering‑led supplier like BWS.

What Our Engineers Say!

Paul Jones

Paul Jones says

This is an ultra-thin, rechargeable inspection and work light that suits tight-access jobs around vehicles and plant. I use this type of lamp where a standard handlamp simply will not get in, for example between chassis members, behind suspension components, and deep in engine bays. The foldable body and magnet make it easy to park on a sill, pillar, or bracket and still aim the light where you need it.

The main technical point is the very slim light strip (around 9 mm) and the 3‑in‑1 use: inspection light, area work light, and a torch from the end. That gives you one lamp instead of three, but it does rely on keeping the battery properly charged and not abusing the hinge.

A common issue I see is techs over-bending or using it as a lever, which eventually slackens the joint. Treated as a light, not a pry bar, it is a reliable, efficient bit of kit for day-to-day bodyshop and workshop work.
