The GYSmeter is a compact digital tram gauge for underbody and chassis measurement, used to check length, symmetry and cross measurements on vehicle frames during collision repair. It lets you quickly compare actual dimensions to OEM data sheets, so you can confirm damage, monitor straightening work and document final alignment on lifts, benches or frame racks.
Can one technician operate the GYSmeter or does it need two people?
It is designed for single-person operation. The lightweight measuring arm, self-centring magnetic attachments and clear digital display allow one technician to position the datum rods and adaptors, take readings between points, and use the hold function where needed without a second person holding gauges or tapes under the vehicle.
What is supplied with the GYSmeter Measuring System and do I need anything else to start using it?
The system is supplied complete for workshop use: 1 rack, 2 magnetic mounts, 2 datum rods, 3 measuring rods and 31 adaptors and tips to pick up common manufacturer measuring points on the vehicle. It runs on 2 x AA batteries, so apart from a PC for the validation/report software and access to vehicle data sheets, there is no extra hardware required to begin measuring.
How does the software and reporting work for insurance and customer documentation?
GYS TECH software is available to download and is used to validate the measurements you take with the GYSmeter. You enter the readings against the vehicle’s reference data, run a verification check, then generate a PDF report showing the measured points, symmetry and cross checks. This report can be printed, saved or emailed as traceable evidence for the customer, insurer or internal quality records.

I see it used on straightening jobs and structural checks where you need to compare the vehicle against the manufacturer’s dimensions before and after repair.

The main point is accurate setup. The height rod, tip selection and magnetic attachment all need to match the measurement point and the data sheet, otherwise the readings are only as good as the setup. On the bench it looks simple, but on a damaged shell access can be awkward, so the hold function and a disciplined measurement routine save time and avoid misreads.
