FAQ,
What is Boron steel? .
Boron steel is being used by vehicle manufacturers especially in the area of the safety cell on a lot of new vehicles. The steel has a very high strength to weight characteristic and so is being implemented more in vehicle manufacture.
How do i weld Boron Steel?.
Boron steel is susceptable to heat as this changes the molecular structure and weakens it. Therefore low heat joining needs to be implemented if at all.
Some manufacturers use MIG BRAZE welding as this has a lower welding temparature ( temp 900 to 1100 Deg) when compared to Steel MIG /MAG welding ( 1900 deg) .
Spot welding Boron steel requires HIGH welding currents and pressurescoupled with a LOW welding time.
High power Inverter spot welders are the norm for spotwelding BORON such as the NEW ARO 13K Inverter spot welder.
What is BS4872 ?.
This is the British Standard specification implemented to test welding competance of a welder in specific welding positions and materials...
It is a worldwide recognised specification for approval testing of welders when welding procedure approval is not required. ...
What is Boron Awareness ?.
This is a basic training devised for PAS125 Bodyshops to make vehicle body repair technicians understand what , where and how, to deal with this special steel as it is utilized in the modern motor vehicle.
